It really is a magic pill warm-up before the warm-up in the main workout. At 62 years of age and in excellent shape, if Tony says the warm-up and cool down are important, then pay attention! I do the 12-minute Cold Start workout right at the start of the resistance and cardio days. I understand his issue with Beachbody was that reducing workout lengths more and more (to, say, 20 minutes) risked a lack of appropriate warm-up/cool down, and anyone doing his Next Level will notice what a big deal these are topping and tailing the workout. The other thing to bear in mind is something Tony Horton takes very seriously: the warm-up and cool down. I'm looking forward to comparing Eccentric Upper and Eccentric Lower to the upper and lower body workouts in P90X.

I got way more out of The Challenge, but did not feel overtrained because I listened to my body in the second round. The interesting one for me was comparing an hour of The Challenge to an hour of P90X Chest & Back. do Balance Arch Press in Total Synergistics 20 times each side rather than 10.

The alternative is to pause the DVD after each set and continue that set for twice the reps or twice the time, e.g. This is manageable, because Tony has sequenced each routine to give different body parts a set's worth of rest. On the X3 Yoga day, I also do Pilates X (helpful as it's on the same DVD) and on the Dynamix day, I add on Isometrix (again, on the same DVD).

These past two weeks, I have done 1 hour per day of X3, for example by doing two rounds of Total Synergistics, and two rounds of Agility X (which puts it on a par with Plyometrics). If 30 minutes of P90X3 don't quite cut it because you prefer a 1 hour workout, but you love the variety this programme offers compared to its predecessors, then based on the principle that P90X has TWO ROUNDS in most workouts, do not do the P90X3 Doubles schedule, but try this instead.
